Preserve
Through the identification, purchase, or management of key properties and open spaces in Southport, we help to maintain the historical character of the town for the benefit of the community. The Sasquanaug Conservancy has five key holdings under our purview: Robinson Cottage, The Sea Lodge, Southport Park, Southport School, and Village Park.

Robinson Cottage
Believed to have been built by Revolutionary War veteran John Robinson Jr. in the late 1780s, this classic New England salt box sits proudly on a hill in town center. Sasquanaug bought the house in 1929 to preserve its place in Southport’s history, and we continue to maintain it as a residential rental property.

The Sea Lodge Association
The Sea Lodge was built by Sasquanaug in 1901 as a beach and bathing club for our members. Today, Sasquanaug leases the building to the independently-run Sea Lodge Association for use as a private beach club.

Southport Park
Southport Park’s history on the Old Post Road dates back to the 1890s, when it was clear-cut for profit by the railroad. The land was donated to Sasquanaug in 1954 under the condition that we maintain it for public use and protect the plants and wildlife. Today, the park features a half mile of trails, and is a favorite destination for dog walkers, joggers, and families who enjoy the natural playscape.

The Southport School
The (then) Southport Conservancy acquired the former Pequot School from the Town of Fairfield, supervised its renovation and leased it to the Eagle Hill School, which thrives today as The Southport School in its role of addressing the special needs of children with learning differences.

The Southport Village Park
The (then) Southport Conservancy accepted contributions to purchase Southport Village Park, at the north end of the village (Prospect Lane & Pequot Avenue) to guarantee that Southport Village will forever be bounded on that side by trees, greenery and open space.
