Advocate
The Sasquanaug Conservancy is committed to advocating for constructive, responsible, and historically consistent development in Southport. With a deep understanding of how to identify and respond to governmental change, we provide the community with the experience and tools to promote its views and address issues effectively.
Our advocacy efforts cover everything from beautification, zoning, and land use planning, to traffic safety and local ordinance enforcement, to the coordination of government services. Our involvement spans organizational support, financial contributions, and the active monitoring of relevant town government and real estate channels.
Spotlight
Lower Bronson Road High-Density Development
The Sasquanaug Conservancy provided financial and organizational support to oppose an inappropriate and unsafe development proposal on lower Bronson Road, adjacent to the busy exit 19 on-ramp to I-95. This case is currently under appeal in court.
Expansion of 65 Station Street
We provided coordination and financial support to the Station Street neighbors in their successful opposition to an inappropriate commercial expansion in a residential neighborhood that was already grappling with traffic.
John Street Truck and Auto Engine Repair Facility

The Sasquanaug Conservancy is fighting to stop the construction of a truck and auto engine repair facility in the middle of our historic John Street neighborhood, between Southport’s southbound train station and the Delamar property. The proposed facility is shown in the attached image. It is proposed to be located at 154 John Street with an entrance around the corner at 90 John Street. The building shown in the image will measure 70 by 78 feet. The Sasquanaug Conservancy is being represented by Joel Green, its attorney.
